HR Foundations & Compliance

HR Foundations & Compliance for Nigerian Businesses

Put the essentials on firm ground.

Contracts, policies, employee handbooks, onboarding and records form the base layer of how an organisation manages people.

When they are inconsistent, outdated or created only when problems arise, managers are forced to improvise. FormWork helps businesses replace that patchwork with a coherent HR foundation designed around how the organisation actually works.

Informal processes eventually become expensive.

A business can operate for years with a mixture of old contracts, verbal rules, downloaded policies and manager discretion. The strain usually becomes visible when the team grows, a dispute arises, a manager handles a situation differently from another manager or leadership discovers that a statutory obligation was assumed rather than checked.

The aim of HR Foundations is not to create paperwork for its own sake. It is to give the organisation a clear, usable base for managing employees consistently.

Scope

What we build

Depending on the agreed scope, work can include:

  • employment contracts and offer documentation;
  • employee handbook;
  • core HR policy framework;
  • leave and attendance processes;
  • conduct, discipline and grievance processes;
  • onboarding documentation and workflow;
  • employee records structure;
  • manager guidance;
  • relevant statutory-compliance review;
  • supporting forms, letters and tools needed to operate the framework.
Outcome

From improvised decisions to a system people can follow.

Managers have clearer rules to work from.

They can refer to an agreed process instead of rebuilding the answer each time.

Employees in similar situations are treated more consistently.

The organisation has common standards rather than different rules depending on who is managing the issue.

New hires enter a defined process.

Contracts, onboarding and records are not recreated from scratch for every employee.

The framework can be maintained internally.

The goal is to leave behind a system the organisation can continue operating after the project ends.

Built for the organisation, not just rebranded.

FormWork uses a substantial document and process base, but consulting work is not a logo-swap exercise. Policies, contracts and workflows are adapted to the organisation’s size, operating model, existing practices and the realities managers need to handle.

Where a standard template is enough, the HR Toolkit may be the more appropriate option. Where the business needs diagnosis, customisation or implementation support, consulting is the better fit.

Process

Build, implement, transfer.

01

Discovery

Understand how the organisation currently manages people, what already exists and where inconsistencies appear.

02

Design

Draft or rebuild the contracts, policies, handbook, processes and supporting tools the organisation actually needs.

03

Implementation

Help leadership and managers put the new framework into use and resolve practical questions that arise during implementation.

04

Knowledge transfer

Equip the people responsible internally to maintain and apply the framework after the engagement.

This is usually the right service when…

  • the business has employees but no coherent HR framework;
  • existing contracts or policies are inconsistent or outdated;
  • leadership wants to formalise people practices before further growth;
  • managers need clearer processes to follow;
  • the organisation has outgrown downloaded templates;
  • an HR Review has already identified foundational gaps that now need to be built.

If you are not yet sure what the business needs, start with the HR Infrastructure Review.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How long does a foundations project take?

Most engagements take around six to ten weeks, depending on team size, how much documentation already exists and how many policies or processes are in scope. We agree the sequence and timeline before work begins.

Are you using templates?

We work from a substantial document and process base, but the consulting deliverable is adapted to the organisation. It is not simply a standard document with a new logo.

Can you review and improve what we already have instead of starting again?

Yes. Where existing documents are sound, it is often more useful to strengthen, align and update them than to replace everything.

Is this legal advice?

No. FormWork provides HR and organisational advisory. Where a point requires legal opinion or representation, the organisation should engage appropriately qualified legal counsel.

What if we do not know which documents or processes we need?

Start with the HR Infrastructure Review. It identifies the material gaps and helps establish what should be built first rather than assuming the answer.
